I loved watching the enthusiasm and passion of a girl I worked with a couple of years ago.  She had Downs Syndrome and loved (maybe I should say idolized) Miley Cyrus.  She would do everything from her gestures to purchasing the Miley wig to singing her songs.  She was the first in line to buy tickets to the Miley movies.  Miley was her hero!

So when I came across this article about what importance heroes have in the lives of children I was intrigued.  The article also explore into the current ‘popular’ heroes that children have as roles models (ummm… unfortunately in most cases not good ones).  A great quote from the article states:

… heroes act as role models, shaping children through their words and deeds. Charles Barkley, the former NBA star, once famously said, “I am not a role model.” But he, and others like him, are role models whether they like it or not.
