Earlier this summer, Heat magazine and other outlets insisted that Miley Cyrus was “being protected” from Ashley Greene, her co-star in LOL: Laughing Out Loud. According to the tab, the pop star’s “people” had barred her from hanging out with Greene, who supposedly partied too much for the good of Cyrus’ image.

It was, of course, a totally made-up rumor.

Cyrus is free to be friends with Greene, and — surprise! — the two reportedly went dancing at a nightclub on Sunday without anything horrible happening.

The LOL actresses danced at VIP Room in Paris, where they’re currently shooting the movie (which is a remake of a French film).

“She was with one bodyguard and two girlfriends,” a spy at the club told UsMagazine.com, adding that Cyrus wasn’t acting “too crazy.”

The only “crazy” thing is that the bogus rumor about Cyrus and Greene being kept apart was widespread enough to make their perfectly happy, uneventful evening together newsworthy

Dress like she wanted to be the poster child for the Material Girl” fashion line, Miley was a lose fit tank revealing her lace bra paired with black baggy silk like pants, a pair of short heeled boots and a chain strap Chanel handbag.

Meanwhile, Miss Greene was spotted patiently waiting for her driver to arrive at the Charles de Gaulle Airport – grabbing her luggage while chatting on her iPhone in a casual outfit. Prior to Paris, Miley and Ashley filmed scenes for the upcoming movie on location in Detroit, Michigan.

For someone who’s 23 and typecast as a high school student, Greene is making the most of it. She’s also playing a rebellious high school teenager in the comedy Butter (with Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, and Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell). Do we want to see her graduate in Hollywood, or do we like the idea that she might channel some of her Alice Cullen maturity into other “teen” roles and make them likeable? Emma Stone can’t carry that burden alone.

I’m sure, ideally, Greene might’ve liked to have had an “Up in the Air” dropped in her lap, ala Anna Kendrick (the big difference being that Kendrick was excellent and I don’t think Greene is very good). However, the “bad girl in high school” role (depending on the caliber of the project) could have some Rachel McAdams-in-”Mean Girls” potential if she plays it right.

Is this Miley Cyrus’ first job that wasn’t given to her by Disney (see: Hannah Montana, The Last Song, all of her albums)?

This girl is so hit-or-miss for me in terms of her looks (I haven’t seen her in anything save the first Twilight). Like, in this photo she’s beautiful, but in Twilight at least she’s merely pretty.

Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in the “Twilight” movies, and “Hung” star Thomas Jane are in negotiations to join Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore in “LOL,” Mandate’s English-language remake of the French comedy. Also joining the cast are Ashley Hinshaw and George Finn.

The story centers on a teenage girl (Cyrus) who is dumped by her more sexually experienced boyfriend (Finn) while her divorcee mother (Moore) struggles to move on with her life.

Greene will play a high school bad girl, and Jane will be Cyrus’ father.

Hinshaw will play Cyrus’ best friend. Douglas Booth has already been cast as Cyrus’ love interest.
